Browsing the Stories

There are over 100 stories of various lengths in the catalogue, for children aged between 4 and 12. To help you find stories of appropriate age/length etc. the column headings are clickable, allowing you to order the stories by Title & Description (alphabetically), Age, Length & Year. Clicking once will order the results from low to high, clicking twice will do the opposite.

Alternatively, if you are looking for stories for a specific age group, you can browse by age using the links in the right hand column. You can also search the catalogue for specific keywords:

Purchasing Individual Stories

• You can purchase any number of individual stories via Paypal if you are not a subscriber to the Palace of Stories.
• You can pay using a credit or debit card or a Paypal account if you have one.
• Clicking on the button will take you to Paypal, where you can choose to edit the contents of your shopping cart, continue shopping or proceed to the checkout, where you can pay using your payment of choice.
• If you choose to continue shopping you will be brought back to the main ‘Stories’ page on this site, where clicking on any other ‘Add to cart’ button will take you again to Paypal.
• To get back to Paypal without adding anything more to your cart, use the ‘View Cart / Checkout’ link in the right-hand column.
• Once you have completed the payment process, you will be directed to a page containing links to the stories you have purchased.
• You will also be sent a confirmation email containing the same information.

Downloading Individually Purchased Stories

The page and email containing links to the stories you’ve purchased will look like this:

• If you have purchased more than one story, they will each be shown as individual links.
• NB: The download links will expire 24 hours from the time of purchase, so make sure you download and save them within that time.

Clicking on the story link will bring up a dialogue box that looks something like this:

• Choose ‘Save’ and you’ll be given a choice as to where to save it. Make sure you know where you saved it so you can find it again!
• Once it’s saved to your machine, you can:
  • play it using your chosen media player
  • save it onto an external device like an MP3 player, or
  • burn it to CD to listen to it elsewhere

Leaving comments about a story

As well as appearing in the list of stories on the stories page, each individual story also has its own page on which you can leave comments. To get to an individual story page, either click on its title in the list, or on the link which says ‘Read or leave comments about this story’, visible when you click ‘show/hide story description’.

Once on the individual story page, you can leave a comment in the comments box, which will appear under that story once it’s been approved by a moderator.

Playing Free Podcasts

• Listen to the Free Podcast online by clicking the ‘play button:

• The player will slide out to reveal the pause and volume controls while the track is playing, so can adjust the volume or pause the track at any time:

Downloading Free Podcasts

• Downlading the podcast on a PC using Internet Explorer:

  Right-button click on the ‘*Right Click* to Download’ link and choose ‘Save Target As’ then choose where you want to save the file:

• Downlading the podcast on a PC using Firefox:

  Right-button click on the ‘*Right Click* to Download’ link and choose ‘Save Link As’ then choose where you want to save the file:

• Downloading the podcast on a Mac using Safari:

  Right-button click on the ‘*Right Click* to Download’ link and choose ‘Download linked file as’. If you don’t have a right button on your mouse, hold down the ‘Ctrl’ key whilst clicking and the following menu will appear. You can then choose where you want to save the file:

Changing your subscription password or email address

• To change either your subscription password or the email address associated with your membership, you need to be logged in to the Palace of Stories.
• Once logged in, click the link ‘View your Account Settings’ which is found on most pages in a box at the top of the right column, with the title ‘Hi (your username)’:

• On the Account Settings page, you can to change any information regarding your account, apart from your user name. Remember to save your changes.
